AIT's Sustainability Hackathon 2020

The Department of the Development and Sustainability at the School of Environment, Resources and Development, Asian Institute of technology will organize the Second Sustainability Hackathon on November 20-21, 2020 using a hybrid mode (online and offline). Anyone from anywhere can participate in this Hackathon by forming a team of at least 3 members. This Hackathon aims to achieve sustainability solutions to address the problems of Sustainability Living in the Face of Coronavirus from any aspect of development.

School Starts with First-ever Online Opening, Distance Courses, Anti-Outbreak Measures

Against a backdrop of the ongoing outbreak of the novel coronavirus, over 100 students from China, Hong Kong and Macau had an opening ceremony with Soochow administrative and academic heads on March 4th, 2020, marking the first of its kind in the school’s history. To withhold the education rights of the students affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, Soochow is providing as many as 658 distance learning classes to nearly 300 students.

Soochow’s Prevention Measures Against Coronavirus Ready for New Semester

As the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) continues to spread, Soochow University established an epidemic prevention team at the first emergency meeting on January 28th, 2020 in accordance with the policies of the Ministry of Education. The school has also set up an "epidemic prevention section" on its Chinese official website to provide faculty, staff, students and parents with the latest information, including educational measures, dorm policies, and related announcements, etc.

SU Student Clubs Perform, Share Joy with Community Residents

On December 1st, 2019, seventeen SCU student clubs gave performance for the local community charity show at Shilin Official Residence. In cooperation with the Residence’s Chrysanthemum Exhibition, Soochow’s United Board (UB) Campus and Community Services Learning Program organized this event which aimed to serve and bring fun to local citizens.

62 Soochow Students Get National Grants for 2019-20 Research Projects

Sixty-two undergraduate students of Soochow University received grants for the “College Student Research Projects” from the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST), with a passing rate of approximately 45%, which was higher than the national average of 40%.

These students will be entitled to a monthly subsidy of NT$6,000 from July 1st, 2019 till February 29th, 2020, with a total of NT$48,000 in eight months. The list of the 62 grant receivers is as follows:

Soochow Alumni Gather at 2019 Global Annual Reunion in Thailand

Over 200 Soochow Alumni from around the world celebrated the University’s third global alumni annual reunion in Bangkok, Thailand, from August 16 to August 20, 2019. The event not only aimed to consolidate the bond of the school’s 130 thousand alumni, but also served as a warm-up for Soochow’s 120th anniversary celebration in the coming 2020.

SU Satisfies All Standards in 2018-19 University Institutional Evaluation

According to the latest results released by Higher Education Evaluation & Accreditation Council of Taiwan (HEEACT) on June 28th, 2019, Soochow University passed all four categories in the university institutional accreditation for the second semester of 2018-19 academic year. The four categories for evaluation include: institutional governance & management, institutional resources and support system, institutional effectiveness, and self-enhancement and sustainable development.

SCU’s 2nd AR Arts Festival Features Virtual Museum with Students’ Original Works

Thirty-seven original works, mostly created by Soochow University’s students, have begun to be showcased at SCU’s two campuses, as the school unveiled its second augmented reality (AR) arts festival starting September 25, 2018. And the organizer SCU Tomorrow Hub (T Hub) has connected this year’s event as one of the exhibition sites of Taipei’s street art show “Nuit Blanche Taipei” (白晝之夜).

School of Big Data Places First in Highway Transport Planning Competition

A teacher and four students from Soochow’s School of Big Data Management won top honor in the 2018 Highway Public Transport Planning Competition held by Directorate General of Highways. The SCU team defeated all other teams with their project “Yilan Regional Tourism and Mass Transportation Integration Platform Design—Environmental Travelling Monopoly Game, and won the championship along with the prize of 200,000 TWD.
