On April 23, 2025, Soochow University's Office of International and Cross-Strait Affairs held its first language exchange event at the Downtown Campus. The event attracted enthusiastic participation from both students and exchange students from various countries. The atmosphere was lively and welcoming, as students engaged in relaxing conversations to enhance their language skills and broaden their global perspectives.
During the event, both exchange students and local students eagerly shared their experiences about the spring vacation and introduced unique cuisines from their home countries. One Korean student introduced tteokbokki and live octopus, sparking great curiosity and lively discussion among the group, with many students asking about the tasting experience and texture. A local student commented that many international friends particularly enjoy Taiwan’s popular bubble tea brand, "Xing Fu Tang," which resonated with the group. Exchange students responded enthusiastically, agreeing that it was "really delicious," filling the room with laughter and making the atmosphere even more vibrant. Many students also shared their passion for Japanese anime and manga, expressing that it was a major motivation for them to learn Japanese, which in turn inspired others to develop an interest in the language. Through these fun and open conversations, students quickly built closer bonds through language and cultural exchange.
During the discussions, a student was complimented by a Korean exchange student for their fluent and natural Korean speaking ability, which provided great encouragement. The student expressed that all the effort spent learning had been worthwhile and felt even more confident in continuing to improve. Through this language exchange event, students not only practiced their language skills and engaged in cultural sharing but also fostered deeper understanding and curiosity toward each other’s cultures.
