2023 Fall semester Welcome Ceremony was held at PUREN Hall on September 13, 2023. It was hosted by International & Cross-Strait Academic Exchange (ICAE) to welcome all the foreign students into the SU family.
After the Pandemic, there were more international students coming to Taiwan. This semester, we were extremely delighted to welcome 180 international students who came from France, Germany, Belgium, South Korea, Japan, etc. To show the hospitality of Soochow University, several honorable guests have shown up to greet these exchange students in person, including President Pan, Vice President Zhan, Director Wang, Director Hsieh, Professor Ruan, Director Kent Wang, Dean of Office of International & Cross-Strait Academic Exchange, and Dean of International Affairs Center.
President Pan commented on how glad he was to see so many international students coming to SU. He sincerely hoped that every student took this opportunity to learn from each other, and acquire special experiences by interacting with students from different countries.
Director Su hoped that every student could gain valuable life experience after school. Also, he reminded newcomers that, although the public security in Taiwan is quite good, everyone should still be cautious while being away from home.
Director Wei sincerely welcomed every exchange student, who by attending, had helped to make the school a more diversified, lively and energetic environment. She wished the students a wonderful and memorable tenure at SU.
Director Wang promoted the language exchange in our school language center. The program provides the opportunity for students from different countries to communicate and practice together to improve their language ability.
Besides being buddies of exchange students, ICAE volunteers also prepared interesting activities for all the students. By guessing the name of several songs and singing together in groups, everyone seemed to get along well and enjoyed the warm vibe. One of the ICAE volunteers, Chen, said she liked the welcome party very much, because she could have a chance to meet other exchange students, and share experiences about their daily life. Exchange student Zhang, said the activities were quite interesting and she liked the enthusiastic atmosphere for the event. Exchange student Julius, felt it was nice to see all of the exchange students at once. Through the welcome ceremony, he was able to meet and interact with people, whom he never would have met otherwise. Students seemed to find it much easier to integrate socially by attending this event, and in turn, acclimatize themselves better to their new campus life at SU.
