Over 200 Soochow Alumni from around the world celebrated the University’s third global alumni annual reunion in Bangkok, Thailand, from August 16 to August 20, 2019. The event not only aimed to consolidate the bond of the school’s 130 thousand alumni, but also served as a warm-up for Soochow’s 120th anniversary celebration in the coming 2020.
Organized and hosted by Soochow University Alumni Association in Thailand with its enthusiastic president Feng-Chun Li, the reunion was attended by SCU President Wei-Ta Pan, Vice President Bau-Tscheng Dung, Dean of Office of Social Resource Shu-Fang Wang, Dean of School of Business Tsu-Tan Fu, Associate Dean Chung-Tzer Liu and other faculty and staff members.
Participating alumni associations came from different corners of the world, including southern California, Japan, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Macao, Shanghai, and Mainland China, as well as from cities and counties in Taiwan, such as Taipei, Keelung, Taoyuan, Hsinchu, Taichung, Changhua, Yunlin, Kaohsiung, etc.
At the dinner banquet, each alumni association entered the venue waving their flag before Director of Soochow University Alumni Association Ji-Ren Liu reported what the Association has been doing in the past few years, thanked each and every alumnus and alumna, and vowed to reach more alumni and keep them as valuable assets to the alma mater.
President Li of Soochow Alumni Association in Thailand expressed his joy and honor to be responsible for this year’s reunion out of his strong passion for SCU, and hoped all the guests to feel at home.
As Soochow will celebrate its 120th anniversary in 2020, President Pan reminded and urged all the alumni around the world to come back to their alma mater to witness its changes over the years.
Many alumni took this opportunity to visit some famous local attractions on a five-day tour, including the Taiwan Association of Thailand, Daitienkung, and Pattaya. Chen-Yuan Tung, the representative of Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Thailand also showed the alumni around the Office.
Following the first global alumni reunion in 2017 in Malaysia and the second one in 2018 in Taipei, this third global reunion in Thailand was another successful gathering for Soochow alumni. And the fourth reunion scheduled 2020 will be held in Shanghai under joint organization by the alumni associations of Mainland China and Shanghai.
