SU Satisfies All Standards in 2018-19 University Institutional Evaluation

According to the latest results released by Higher Education Evaluation & Accreditation Council of Taiwan (HEEACT) on June 28th, 2019, Soochow University passed all four categories in the university institutional accreditation for the second semester of 2018-19 academic year. The four categories for evaluation include: institutional governance & management, institutional resources and support system, institutional effectiveness, and self-enhancement and sustainable development.

In its report, the evaluation committee recognized Soochow’s distinct position of being “an excellent teaching-oriented university focusing on the balance of Five Ways of Life,” which has been implemented by setting up “aesthetic education activities,” “English proficiency,” and “information processing skills” as the graduation requirements for its students.

Soochow also impressed HEEACT with its use of a variety of questionnaires to find out students’ perceptions on the school’s effectiveness and to collect opinions from stakeholders  in order to facilitate the school’s development and ensure its quality.

Other great jobs done by the University are its participation in the “Excellent Long-Established University Consortium of Taiwan” to enhance the sharing of educational resources across different universities, its establishment of the School of Big Data Management in 2015 to train cross-disciplinary talents in data science and big data analyst, as well as its foundation of “Soochow University Institutional Research Center” to carry out project research on school affairs and yield analytical reports, forming a culture of making decisions by empirical evidence.

SCU President Wei-Ta Pan attributed the satisfactory evaluation results to the hard work of all the faculty and staff, particularly the Office of Research Development and the Dean of Research Development Chih-Chieh Wang. In the future, he added, SCU will continue to enhance the competitiveness in school management and increase the effectiveness of research and teaching by making decisions based on empirical evidence.
