Overseas Chinese/Foreign Students’ National Health Insurance

According to Article 10-2 and Article 11 of the National Health Insurance Law, Alien Resident Certificate (ARC) holders must apply for National Health Insurance after living in Taiwan for four months.

 

I. Registration and Payment of the Premiums:

For overseas Chinese students or foreign students, National Health Insurance fees for every six-month period of study after students are eligible for insurance are included in the tuition fees.

 

International students: The monthly premium is NT$749.

Overseas Chinese students: Students will pay NT$374 out-of-pocket, and the remaining NT$375 will be subsidized by the Overseas Chinese Affairs Commission.

 

II. Coverage Period:

Fall Semester: September to February; Spring Semester: March to August

Note: New arrivals will participate in the National Health Insurance from January. The first six months (September to December) will be covered by the Overseas Chinese Students Insurance.

 

III. Refund and Withdrawal:

Students who will leave Taiwan due to graduation, suspension, or voluntary resignation from the program should return their National Health Insurance IC card and apply for withdrawal and a refund of the remaining month’s premiums no later than 10 days before departure from Taiwan.

 

IV. Medical Service:

Bring your health insurance IC card and ARC to any contracted health care institution (identified by the National Health Insurance logo in their doorways) to receive treatment under the health insurance program.
